Originally launched in 2001, iTunes was created by Apple Inc. and has soared to the number one download store for music. As digital media (music, videos, podcasts) has gained incredible popularity throughout the world, iTunes remained the center of it all. Of course, portable media players (like the iPod) and smart phones (like the iPhone) have helped reinvent music distribution forever.
Unfortunately, going into all of the details of creating, producing and marketing your podcast won’t be captured in this article. Frankly, there is a lot to learn. However, these sites can help you learn more:

In 2005, iTunes began to support podcasts. And since then, iTunes has become the 800 lb. gorilla in the podcast space. Honestly, if you ask your friends what a podcast is most will look at you as if you are speaking some foreign language.
However, many people listen to podcasts, even if they don’t know what they are called. It does not matter. The point is if you have a podcast, you need to syndicate it through iTunes. For answers from iTunes to popular podcast questions, click here.
A successful podcast can be a SIGNIFICANT source of traffic that will attract new customers, create more brand loyalty and drive sales for your online store. I am aware of several online businesses that were MADE by having a successful podcast on iTunes.
QUICK TIP:
If you are new to podcasting and you are interested in starting a podcast, you should first subscribe to several through iTunes. By doing this, you will get a sense of what makes compelling content, how to pace a show and how to promote your products.
And if you start a new podcast, take the time to create a powerful, keyword rich show title, write a thorough show description and tag your podcast so iTunes users can find your podcast easier.
Here’s to your online (podcasting) success,
David
