Yes, you can do this these days. Many marketers don’t realize that you can have videos that contain embedded links.
The concept is that as a viewer is watching your online video on another site, you can have an embedded link within the actual video that when clicked will take the viewer to your online store.
As of this writing, YouTube does not allow videos hosted through them to contain embedded links. My guess is that changes in the future, but for now, we will have to live with linking from video descriptions and YouTube Channel descriptions.
There are plenty of ways to use videos with links embedded in them. Here is a partial list to get you started:
- Featured products showcase
- Post the video in editorial content on your site or another site
- Encourage viewers to bookmark the video on social networking sites
- Ask viewers to share the video link with friends – try a service like AddThis.com or ShareThis.com to do this with ease
- Add the video to an online press release
- Create a “Quick Tour” video of your online store showing your store highlights. Then, link to each store highlight as appropriate
- Post the video on your Facebook fan page
- And much more…
Here is one business, LiveLinkVideo.com, that’s sole focus is to make clickable videos. Personally, I have never used it, but if you need help (and have some money to spend), you might want to check it out.
If you produce your own videos through software like Camtasia (I use this software often and I love it), you can easily add links within your videos.
Here is a training video from Techsmith the company who makes Camtasia.
Here’s to your online (video) success,
David
